‘The Hunting Wives’ Casts WNBA Star Angel Reese in Season 2 (Exclusive)

WNBA star Angel Reese has joined the cast of the Netflix series "The Hunting Wives" for its upcoming second season. She will take on a co-starring role described as "Trainer Barbie."

The series, starring Brittany Snow and Malin Akerman, became a breakout hit for Netflix this summer. Production for the second season is currently underway in the United States. After Netflix acquired the series from Starz prior to its first season, the eight-episode second season will be released exclusively as a Netflix series in nearly all countries where Netflix is available, though a specific premiere date has not yet been announced.

Reese joins other newly announced cast members including John Stamos, Kim Matula, Alex FitzAlan, Dale Dickey, and Cam Gigandet. Known as "Bayou Barbie," Reese rose to fame after leading the LSU Tigers to the 2023 NCAA women's basketball championship. She currently plays for the Chicago Sky in the WNBA, where she is a two-time all-star and made the league's All-Rookie Team in 2024.

The series also features returning cast members Jaime Ray Newman, Dermot Mulroney, Evan Jonigkeit, George Ferrier, Karen Rodriguez, Hunter Emery, and Branton Box. "The Hunting Wives" is created by Rebecca Cutter and is based on the bestselling novel of the same name by May Cobb.

The show, produced by Lionsgate Television and 3 Arts Entertainment, moved to Netflix after initially being developed for Starz. It follows a group of upper-class Texan women who enjoy shooting guns, drinking, and partying—and who are involved in killings. The series was the most-viewed streaming show in the U.S. one month after its release on July 21.

The first season concluded with a major cliffhanger: Sophie (played by Brittany Snow), while drinking and driving, crashed her car into Margo's (played by Malin Akerman) brother. This incident potentially adds another fatal drunken driving accident to her record and severely threatens both her family's future and her passionate affair with Margo.
