Phoenix stuns San Miguel, drops Beermen to 0-2
Phoenix secured an upset victory over defending champion San Miguel with a 109-103 win in the PBA Philippine Cup on Sunday at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City.
The Fuel Masters built a substantial lead of 105-90 with approximately four minutes left in the final quarter, but the Beermen responded with an 11-0 run to reduce the deficit to 105-101 with 1:39 remaining.
Critical moments included Ricci Rivero making free throws after a foul by CJ Perez, and Evan Nelle's successful free throws sealing the win after June Mar Fajardo missed a crucial four-point attempt.
Ricci Rivero led Phoenix with 16 points, seven rebounds, and three assists, while Tyler Tio and Kai Ballungay contributed 14 points each, helping the team notch its first win of the conference. For San Miguel, June Mar Fajardo recorded 19 points and 22 rebounds in a losing effort, marking the Beermen's second consecutive loss in the All-Filipino conference.
