Nuggets’ Nikola Jokic an NBA All-Star for eighth straight year; starters revealed

20/01 10:01

Nikola Jokic has been named an NBA All-Star for the eighth consecutive year, extending the third-longest active streak behind Giannis Antetokounmpo and LeBron James. The starters were selected through a combination of fan, player, and media voting, with the remaining 14 players to be chosen by head coaches and announced on February 1.

If healthy, Jokic will compete for the "world team" in a new round-robin tournament format at the All-Star Game on February 15. However, he has expressed skepticism about the NBA's latest attempts to make the event more competitive. His participation is contingent on his recovery from a bone bruise in his left knee that has sidelined him for 11 games.

Statistically, Jokic is having a remarkable season, averaging a career-high 29.6 points per game while leading the league in rebounds, assists, and true shooting percentage. He is on pace to average a triple-double for the season and is close to tying Oscar Robertson for second place on the all-time career triple-doubles list.

Despite his injury, Jokic's All-Star selection was not impacted, as there is no strict games-played minimum for the honor. However, his streak of All-NBA team selections and his eligibility for the MVP award are in jeopardy due to the league's 65-game minimum requirement for end-of-season awards. The Denver Nuggets have managed a 7-4 record in his absence.
