Manny Pangilinan leads honorees at PBA Press Corps Awards Night
PLDT Chairman and CEO Manny V. Pangilinan (MVP) reinforced his dedication to basketball and highlighted its profound importance to Filipinos during his speech at the PBA Press Corps Awards Night. He received the "Danny Floro Executive of the Year" award for a record-tying third time, matching the achievements of past winners, in recognition of TNT's strong performance in Season 49 with two championships and one runner-up finish.
In his address, Pangilinan emphasized the unique passion for basketball that unites people, noting it extends beyond business to national pride and inspiration from Filipino athletes excelling locally and internationally, such as Gilas Pilipinas. He praised PBA stakeholders for sustaining the sport's vitality, stressing that rivalries and respect are key to the league's success and unity.
He reflected on basketball's positive impact, stating it fosters friendships, builds character, uplifts spirits during hardships, provides employment, and brings the nation together during divisive times. Pangilinan called for continued service to the game with sportsmanship and love, aiming to enrich the lives of devoted Filipino basketball fans.
Additionally, coach Chot Reyes was honored with the Baby Dalupan Coach of the Year award for a record seventh time. He expressed gratitude to management for their trust and opportunity, acknowledging an unexpected turnaround in his coaching journey.
