Magic’s Desmond Bane Fined $35K By NBA
The NBA has fined Orlando Magic guard Desmond Bane $35,000 for forcefully and unsportsmanlike throwing the game ball at New York Knicks forward OG Anunoby. The incident, which occurred with 6:13 remaining in the fourth quarter of Sunday's game, also resulted in a technical foul for Bane. The Magic lost the game by six points.
The play developed after a steal by the Knicks' Mikal Bridges led to a fast break involving Anunoby and the Magic's Anthony Black. Black stripped the ball from Anunoby, who fell out of bounds. Bane, trailing the play, collected the in-bounds ball and then deliberately threw it at Anunoby. The officials ruled it a hostile act, issuing a technical foul, though Orlando retained possession because Anunoby was out of bounds.
This is not the first such incident for Bane this season. He was ejected from a game on November 4 after receiving a flagrant foul and a technical for spiking the ball off Atlanta Hawks center Onyeka Okongwu during a similar altercation. Bane is earning $36.7 million this season, so the financial impact of the fine is minimal.
