28/09 20:00

Joel Benjamin, a 22-year-old Outside Hitter from India, is emerging as a key talent in volleyball, highlighted by his recent high-value move to the Bengaluru Torpedoes for ₹6.5 lakh in the Prime Volleyball League. This acquisition underscores his growing significance in the sport and the league's role in nurturing young athletes.

Benjamin first gained attention in the league's third season while playing for Chennai Blitz, where he scored an impressive 55 points across just 8 matches, including 52 attack points that showcased his offensive prowess. His consistent performance attracted scouts and led to his acquisition by the Bengaluru Torpedoes, reflecting the team's confidence in his potential.

Currently, Benjamin is training under the guidance of David Lee, an Olympic gold medalist, which is accelerating his development as a player. He attributes his rapid improvement to the intense and detailed practices, feeling more prepared for the upcoming season and adding new dimensions to his game.

His success is part of a broader trend facilitated by the Prime Volleyball League, which provides a professional structure for young players to advance their careers. The league offers exposure to international competition and high-level play, addressing gaps previously present at university or state levels and elevating the sport across India.

Hailing from Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, Benjamin has already achieved notable successes, including a gold medal at the All India Inter-University Championship and a bronze at the National Games. His ultimate ambition is to represent the Indian national team, and he focuses daily on skill enhancement to achieve this goal.
