Cavaliers' Garland out at least 1 week with sprained toe

19/01 10:02

Cleveland Cavaliers guard Darius Garland will be out for at least one week after being diagnosed with a Grade 1 sprain in his right great toe. The injury occurred on January 14th against the Philadelphia 76ers, causing him to miss the subsequent game against the same team.

Further evaluation on Saturday confirmed the sprain. The team plans to reevaluate the seventh-year player in seven to ten days as he undergoes treatment. This is a separate injury from the persistent issue with his left great toe, which required offseason surgery and has already caused him to miss 16 games this season.

Garland, a two-time All-Star, has been performing well recently, averaging 20.2 points and 7.4 assists over his last 16 games while shooting 50.4% from the field and 42% from three-point range.

The Cavaliers, who had the best record in the Eastern Conference last season, have struggled with injuries throughout the current campaign. They hold a 24-19 record, placing them fifth in the East heading into their Monday afternoon game against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
