BREAKING: Spurs' Victor Wembanyama Earns First NBA All-Star Start

19/01 20:01

Victor Wembanyama has been named a starter for the NBA All-Star Game for the first time in his career, marking his second overall All-Star selection. The announcement was made on Monday, with starters determined by a combination of fan, player, and media votes.

In his third season with the San Antonio Spurs, Wembanyama is posting career-best averages of 24.5 points, 10.9 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2.6 blocks per game, with efficient shooting percentages. He becomes the sixth Spurs player ever to be selected as an All-Star starter, continuing the franchise's long history of All-Star representation.

The league has introduced a new format for this year's All-Star Game, featuring three eight-player teams: two Team USA squads and one Team World squad. They will compete in a round-robin tournament. Coaches from the conference-leading teams are in line to captain these squads.

Wembanyama's teammates, including Stephon Castle, praised his unique defensive impact. Despite the individual honor and the Spurs' strong conference standing, Coach Mitch Johnson emphasized the team still has a long way to go to achieve its goals. Wembanyama himself has a serious, competitive approach to the All-Star event.
